| How to Get to Tainan City

There are various ways to travel to Tainan City. You can choose the following main transportation methods and routes based on your departure location:

TRA (Taiwan Railways)

Trains from all major cities across Taiwan run directly to Tainan Station.

  • From Taipei: Tze-Chiang Limited Express takes approximately 4.5 hours.
  • From Kaohsiung: Approximately 35–50 minutes.

Upon arrival, you can transfer to city buses, taxis, or YouBike to tour the city.

THSR (Taiwan High Speed Rail)

Taiwan High Speed Rail Tainan Station (located in Guiren District)

  • From Taipei: Approximately 1 hour 45 minutes.
  • From Taichung: Approximately 50 minutes.
  • From Kaohsiung Zuoying Station: Approximately 15 minutes.

THSR Tainan Station connects to the TRA Shalun Branch Line, allowing direct transfer to a train into the city center (Tainan Station), which takes about 25 minutes.

Intercity Bus

Buses from various locations (such as Taipei, Taichung, Kaohsiung) run directly to Tainan Bus Station or Siaosimen Stop.

Major operators: Ubus, Ho-Hsin, Kuo-Kuang, Aloha, etc.

Driving by Car
  • Southbound on National Freeway No. 1 or No. 3 → connect to Provincial Highway 86 Expressway → enter the city.
  • Takes about 1 hour from Kaohsiung and about 2.5 hours from Taichung.
