Dacheng Gate is the grand entrance to the main hall of the Tainan Confucius Temple and the most ornate gate within the complex. Each door panel is embedded with 108 studs (54 on each side), symbolizing reverence and ritual order.
The gate pillars are intentionally left without couplets, reflecting the idea of “no literary display before Confucius.” The gate remains closed most of the time and is only opened during Confucius memorial ceremonies or special rituals, signifying solemnity and tradition.
